People who know me despair at my optimism, not least in my response to Friday’s debacle in the Oval Office. I spent my weekend having friends tell me that we’re doomed. Some fear we’ll be at war with the US in two years. Others insist that we’re now in the slow process of unshackling our interests from those of the United States. Meanwhile, social media buzzes as it always does with reductive analysis. “World War Three” trends again, boosted by the very same people who boosted it last time. And the time before that. And the time before that…

Everybody is doom-mongering and I’m feeling a bit left out when there are clickbait rewards to be had.
