Don’t be afraid of the big bad BRICS
The BRICS alliance is riven with internal divisions and contradictions.
Who’s afraid of the big bad BRICS? Perhaps you followed the twists and turns of its 17th annual summit - the one held in Rio de Janeiro this week?
If not, then you will have missed the 11 member states signing a “historic commitment for more inclusive and sustainable government”.
Future generations must judge how historic this turns out to be. However, given that there were no concrete proposals on reaching this noble aim, the Rio conference may not be placed in the pantheon of history-making summits alongside say Yalta or Bretton Woods.
