Ian thank you for informed content over the years and facilitating the production of an email that provided eloquent and informative comments from outstanding contributors. Thanks to everyone to whom I wish every success for the future. You will certainly be missed.
I was genuinely shocked to read Iain’s newsletter this week, having been a reader and subscriber of Reaction from day one. Many of the comments here have captured the sentiment far more eloquently than I can, but I want to echo my thanks to everyone at Reaction for providing such a diverse and thoughtful range of content over the years.
Like others, I initially joined for the writing of Iain and Tim Marshall, but I quickly became a fan of so many other brilliant contributors. While I’ll continue to follow these fantastic writers on their Substack pages, I’ll really miss the daily Reaction emails as they’ve been an evening highlight for a long time.
I’ll console myself with Iain’s weekly newsletter and, of course, I never miss an episode of the Not Another One podcast, where Iain remains a key contributor. If anyone reading this hasn’t yet subscribed, do yourself a favour and open up your podcast provider of choice and subscribe today! It’s smart, sharp, and consistently thought-provoking, with two excellent episodes a week from Iain, Steve Richards, Tim Montgomery and the legendary Miranda Green.
Thank you again to everyone involved in curating such an insightful platform. You shall be missed.
Understandable but nonetheless sad. The damage social media delivered by smartphone devices is doing to our politics is utterly terrifying. It threatens democracy itself and yet while the Zuckerbergs of this world get ever richer no government appears to be interested in taking these behemoths on. I will of course continue to support and read. But this is a sad day for sure.
I have so enjoyed and learned from you and your colleagues’ articles on Reaction. If I ever deleted an email without reading some of the articles it was a rare occurrence and probably due to being otherwise overwhelmed by emails and ‘life’. Other peoples’ lives and opinions were all there in your articles so I’m very sad to see you go but I guess it is up to me to seek other sources in your absence. Thank you for your time and commitment. I wish you all the best with your other projects.
(Depressingly) understandable, this has been my main source of news journalism over the past few years, and I will miss it. Thank you for introducing me to a variety of topics and perspectives, it has been a pleasure as well as an education. More power to your elbow Iain in your rearranged future.
I joined for Tim Marshall but discovered so much more … not least Caitlin Allen who has been my regular “go to” on a variety of subjects … thanks for everything guys … hope to catch up with everyone’s next venture 🙏

Great shame. Depressing news on top of a depressing reality in this country.

Thank you very much for the website and newsletters. A pretty depressing summary of the trends in journalism. Best wishes to everyone.
Iain,
