A period of silence from Lineker would now be welcome

The BBC’s impartiality clause should apply to all on its payroll, especially those with a massive public platform courtesy of the licence fee payer’s largesse.

For the past couple of months, the BBC has been asking its audience to help shape its output, now and in the future.

“Your opinion matters to the BBC”, said the online survey, asking people like you and me to have our say.

It is part of the biggest ever public engagement exercise run by the national broadcaster as it prepares for the review of its current charter, which runs until 2027.
